Formed in Philadelphia in 1995 by bassist/leader, Carl Smith, and late keyboardist, Bill “Wolf” Young, The Quake (aka The Monday Night Live Band) of the now defunct Comcast SportsNet one hour variety “sports-tainment” show, Monday Night Live. Because of these experiences, the band has a wealth of knowledge at their disposal, and of course, the music and presentation are without question, spectacular.
The Quake is not an entertainment agency, a production company with multiple bands, or mercenary musicians that tend to get “mixed and matched”. Formed in Philadelphia in 1995, The Quake is a professional, upscale, special events band. The band that you hire is the one that will perform at your event. Configurations can range from 7 to 12 pieces, depending on budget and type of event, with no compromises in sound or performance.
Because The Quake is an independent and self-managed band, we don’t incur large talent/booking agent commission costs. That expense is what agencies and management companies must pass on to you or the band in the form of higher prices or huge commissions. You won’t plan your event with a sales person, manager, or some non-musician who will not be available to you during your event. Carl Smith, a Philadelphia native, La Salle University graduate, and bandleader of The Quake, is your single point of contact throughout all the planning stages of your event. He is always present and performs with the band at every single event, ensuring that all your expectations are met. He is also willing to act as the point of contact with your other vendors prior to and during the event. Your satisfaction is our main goal and we know that entertainment plays an essential role in your party’s success.
The members of The Quake all possess the ability to cover a wide range of vocal and musical styles; satisfying the varied musical tastes of all your guests. In addition to Contemporary music, we offer a wide selection of Sinatra, Swing/Big Band, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, R & B, Motown, Funk, Disco, Classic Rock, Fifties, Standards, Latin, Ethnic, and Broadway. We perform the music that you and your guests want to hear at a volume level acceptable to all.
The band draws from a vast array of musical genres and styles, while showcasing some of Philadelphia’s premier musicians and vocalists who have performed with such artists as: Michael Bublẻ, Stephanie Mills, Musiq Soulchild, Kindred Family Soul, Olivia Newton-John, Grover Washington Jr., Howard Hewitt, The Village People, The Ritchie Family, Danny & The Juniors, The Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB Orchestra, TSOP, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Miami Sound Machine, Dan Akroyd, Eddie Holman, The Count Basie Orchestra, The Stylistics, Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Sister Sledge, McFadden & Whitehead, Bunny Sigler, T. Lyfe, Blue Magic, The O’ Jays, Modern English, Lee Andrews and The Hearts, and The Intrigues. The material played includes songs from the forties to the new millennium, with dance-ability being a common denominator.
